Get on the waters of beautiful Galway Bay in a sit-on-top kayak and enjoy views of the Burren and the Aran Islands. Play in the waves or paddle along the shoreline with nothing between you and the Wild Atlantic!
Kayaking has become a very popular hobby in Ireland in recent years. Sea kayaking can be really good fun as you navigate the waves, and there is so much to explore.
Expect to see birds like terns, barnacle geese and oystercatchers, as well as marine mammals such as seals and occasional dolphins. You can taste an amazing range of flavours of seaweeds in their natural habitat on the rocks nearby.
We hire kayaks, paddles and wetsuits at our base in An Spidéal. Our qualified instructors will advise on handling the kayak, safety considerations, and where best to paddle.
We use sit-on-top kayaks which are safe, easy to use and very stable. A two bladed paddle is used for kayaking. If you use a one-bladed paddle you are ‘canoeing’, which is the name that has become commonly used to describe both kayaking and canoeing. Just to completely confuse – a stand-up paddle board also has a single bladed paddle, but you’ll know that when you’re on a board!
Individuals and families are most welcome. We can also organise special outings and rates for groups. For this we would need a few days notice.
